Advancing Maritime Safety: OMC’s Role in S-129

OMC has continued its contribution to the International Hydrographic Organization’s (IHO) development of the S-100 Universal Hydrographic Data Model, with Jason Rhee chairing the Project Team for the S-129 Under Keel Clearance Management (UKCM) Product Specification.

Through its expertise as a UKCM service provider, OMC has been overseeing the development of the S-129 Product Specification through several revisions. The operational S-129 Edition 2.0.0 is now currently undergoing endorsement process by IHO Member States.

We have, again, participated in the S-100 Working Group meeting this year. The 9th S-100 Working Group meeting was held during November this year in Genoa, Italy, where we collaborated with various international organisations to continue improving the various product specifications under the S-100 framework.

After various virtual meetings throughout the year, the S-129 Project Team gathered in person while in Genoa for the 14th Project Team meeting, during which we discussed the development of S-129 beyond Edition 2.0.0.

OMC is also an active member of the S-100 Working Group in Australia under the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM), as well as in New Zealand, assisting with efforts to implement the various S-100 products in the local data chains.

We will continue to collaborate with various experts at AHO, AMSA, and around the world, to shape the future of safe and efficient navigation.
